Like The Flowing River

Be like the flowing river
Silent in the night
Be not afraid of the dark
If there are stars in the sky reflect them back
If there are clouds in the sky
Remember clouds,like river, are water
So gladly reflect them too
In your own tranquil depths
-Manuel Bandeira

I am currently reading a book by paulo coelho, which has the same title as this post. I just wanted to share with you some excerpts from this book, which i like the most. For persons who wonder who paul coelho is , he is the author of the book Alchemist , a bestseller.
THINGS TO BE LEARNT FROM A PENCIL
1) Your are capable of great things but you must not forget there is a hand guiding you. That hand is God
2)The pencil has to be sharpened now and then .This makes the pencil suffer a little but it is sharper then and writes better. So you must learn to bear pains and sorrows which will make us a better human.
3)Pencil allows to corrects its mistakes with an eraser. Similary correcting what we did is not BAD THING it helps us to keep us on the road to justice.,
4)What really matters in the pencil is the graphite not the wooden exterior. So pay attention to what is happening inside you.
5)Pencil always leaves a mark. So you should leave a mark in life through your actions. Be conscious of that in whatever you do

The Moment of dawn

A priest gathered his students together and asked them how do we know the exact moment the night ends and the day begins.
when light is enough to distinguish a sheep from a dog said a boy
when light is enough to differentiate between a fig and olive tree.
rabbi said not thats not the right one
the boys asked thn what is the right answer
WHEN A STRANGER APPROACHES AND WE THINK HE IS OUR BROTHER AND ALL THE CONFLICTS DISAPPEAR THATS THE MOMENT WHEN NIGHT ENDS AND DAY BEGINS

The book is absolutely fantastic and inspirational, guys if you find a chance read it :)

Finger Lickin Good

Wat say - there is nothing as yum as a meal of KFC endru solluven nu anticipation vendam. We are all built of the staple of india - rice. And athuvum briyani basmathi rice ;) So nothing like a class of ENGINEERING DESIGN after a packed meal of Anjappar briyani with onion rita and fish fry. Ippove i am drooling :). . . We all earn to eat - atleast i do only that with all my money :) Good - my dad always says, for good food never think twice to spend. But now all i do is eat junk food in the name of it !

I dont want to make myself feel bad in complaining about it - as i know its not the best of the variety for health - but atleast i am happy eating it and i feel like i have accomplished something in life. Do u guys know - i crave for pizza and yearn for KFC chicken. Its not a cliche - i really do. but pretty soon i will be looking back cuz already i am in the verge of becoming gundappa :)) So - it doesnt matter wat kind of food or wat variety or which country it is originating from - wat matters is the taste of the food and the taste of the guy having it. Ultimately if u had a Great Feast, every muscle in ur body is delighted.

So basically - pasta, chapathi, tofu, rice, salad, chaat, idli, momos, soup, paneer, custard, burger, naan, footlong, pastry, noodles, curd rice, cereal, macarooni, aapam, cutlet, fruits, paneer, pizzas, murukku, gulab jamun, fried rice, smoothies, hot chocolate, chocolate, cookies, french fries, oothapam, sandwich, onion rava dosa - ithu ellathukum oru bottom line - i love them all ;).. this was just a brainstormed list of stuff that our mouth waters for. so lets do this delicacy post where each one of us list out our favorite dishes and i am proud to say i am a connoisseur in the field of eateries - are u?

All Weddings & A Funeral

We call ourselves the Mankind. But you come to realize the true meaning of that proposition only during the coarse, stinging paths of the journey in the course of life. It was one fine saturday morning where i oversleep and undereat as part of morning customaries. Then as usual, i got up at ten and got ready swwoooosh in ten minutes and mind you ppl my driver was already there waiting for me down - honking all the while,. This is also part of the daily beaten up routine - where i make suleiman wait cuz i get up only 10 mins before he comes and i am ready 10 mins after his arrival.

Hopped on to the cab at 10.30 and was in office logging into my lap few minutes later - which usually is a sluggish process. As usual - mails, msgs, incident calls, and coffee break. back to work - went ahead with performance tuning activities for Manugistics Appln - as per plan of the day. Then came the call - the horrifying dreadful one. ! From periappa - sober, mournful, sorrow voice - a stormful silence - then came the painful disclosure - Appatha passed away.... Sheesh - although it was anticipated as she was suffering from a terminal illness for quiet sometime, when it finally happens - it kind of drowns you and drains you, how much ever prepared you are. That is wat u call the stage act - rehearse a million times and inspite of it the apprehensive hesitation is always there !

I broke down - unable to bear the fact and take the shock. I was in office - so pretty much in control in the outside. More than the shock, i was surprised about the fact that i did not shed tears the very moment like my dad or periappa. The sorrowful and agonizing fact was that - my dad was flying down from malaysia for the very purpose of spending some valuable time with his mother during her last days. God was so merciless that he had to take her away even before he could come home and see her last breadth - u know how important is - to see our own parents last breadth. It is like being able to see heaven on earth - not because of the fact that they are leaving us, but bcuz of the undeniable fact that it was the soul that was responsible for what you are at that moment is atlast leaving you all to yourself. Its an honour and privilege of every man to be able to see his/her mother/father give up their last beat. My father was not fortunate enough to have that

He landed and so did my grandma take off. Finally when he reached home his bro and sisters screamed aloud in vain crying with a contemplation of wanting to see her again. Haiyo pavam, its heartbreaking. But wat to do fate has the last say. At 11.30 i got the news - 1 pm booked flight tickets - 1.15 booked bus tickets to madurai (thats where she passed away) - and there i was before i could even let out a gasp of anguish in the plane watching out the window and trying to recall all precious moments that i had with the creator of my creator. One weird thing struck me then, why am i not still shedding tears !!!!! It was quite troubling though.

Next morning i was in madurai, i entered periappa's house and there they were, the 4 gifted souls - the sons and daughters of my appatha. One thing about her that i ve not spotted on anybody else till date is - till the last moment of her life she was not harsh, unkind, rude, punishing, or unpleasant to even the biggest sinners she had come across.. hats off - antha alavuku patience i have not seen in anyone. Even then i did not weep or sob - although i saw my dad, athais and periappa mourn aloud!!

Lots of visitors on the mourning day and innumerable condolences. Then we transported her in that refrigerating glass container to our native - the biggest disappointment of the 4 kids was that they could not fulfil their mother's last wish - to spend last days in our native - aaravayal. This was because there was not much hospitalization facilities available there to treat her in case of emergencies. So there it goes - last wish unfulfiled - even more excruciatingly painful.

Atleast to cremate her, we had to do it in aaravayal. So we took here there with that freezer container. And to tell you people, however beautiful or adorable or admirable you are looks wise - when your heart stops pumping and you've become lifeless - the body detoriates in hours - just like that. It turns pale, damp, disgusting, and ghastly. Inspite of this fact my grandma was still looking acceptable - cha, what a majestic royal she lived - pogum bothu ethuva irunthalum it will loose beauty.

There i was stranded in the land of my very own grandma where she was not there to see it for one last time............
compassionate side of the story in the next post mates

My scribblings

It was a boring afternoon, coz I dint have resources to do my work, got a thought and turned it into a bright one :)

Wrote few lines about a mother, to dedicate it for my mom, she was very happy reading it :)

பல்வேறு நபர்களிடம் பகிர்ந்து ஆனந்தமடைந்தாய்;
முடியாதென்று எதற்கும் சொல்லும் மடந்தை பருவத்தை
மனம் கவரும் சொல்லில் மாற்றினாய்!
உரிய வயதில் உரியவரிடம் கொடுத்து, உலகறியச் செய்தாய்;
அறிந்தேன் அம்மா !!
அம்மா என்பவள் தவம் புரிபவள் என்று,
அன்பே உருவான ஆருயிர் என்று,
அள்ளி அணைக்கும் த்யாகத்தின் கருவென்று !!

WEEK END TRIP

'Good evening ladies and gentlemen
We are tonight's entertainment'

the voice of the joker from batman greeted me when i awoke from my nights slumber. It was sunday, 7 in the morning and my room mate was watching THE DARK KNIGHT; cool movie to begin the day with. If it was any other weekend it would have passed of with me playing cricket. But this sunday was something special. I was to meet my school friend who had joined the airforce academy at dundigal ,hyderabad. After finishing my morning ablutions I proceeded towards the bus stop apprhensively unsure of which bus i would board. Finally I came to a conclusion to board the bus to secunderabad. When I reached there ,much to my relief I found the Cab exclusively for the airforce academy waiting at the entrance of the sec'bad railway station .The cab started by 9 with me peeping out of the window ,and trying to memorize the route in vain.

A journey of 40 minutes through the outskirts of hyderabad brought me face to face with a mig aircraft prototype stationed at the entrance of the airforce academy. The academy ws situated in a serene and natural place far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whew!!! after a longtime I was seeing some greenery. Then I had to obtain a pass to visit my friend.

My bad luck they did not have my friend's name in the list of students who would be having visitors that day.I was left to languish in the waiting room, with only the fleas and bugs of the visitors room for company, for more than an hour until the authorities confirmed the existence of my friend among their ranks:)

I was called and given a pass to meet my friend at the FLIGHT CADETS MESS. The autorities asked me to wait for the next bus to go inside. i thought.' why would not these guys let me walk' . It must be a very small distance, a thought which would be proved long later. As the secon cab came I got into it ,and to my surprise i found it going into a forest.

well u will not beleive me the entire academy is well laid out in a forest wth roads connecting the different campuses of the academy. It was like an african safari , with HOMO SAPIEN being the only animal in view. Even there was a sign 'WILD BOARS CROSSING BEWARE',WOW what nice place to study :)

After half an hour of twists and turns and less of wild boar crossings i came to the MECCA of the academy, the flight cadets mess. My friend was waiting for me there in immaculate white uniform with a black necktie and the customary haircut, remember me during the first year IV:). How long has it been since i met him ? ages .....

The entire place was bautiful, with lot of well laid gardens . Here u can find the purest of oxygen. My friend took me to the foire (reception), to register myself. Then we proceeded to the visitors waiting hall. It was equivalent to the reception of a five star hotel , with expensive furniture and many paintings and portraits adorning the room.

We chatted for long time and i just gave a call to his mom. U must see how his mom felt while talking to her son after three months . the only means of communication between them was letters, Cellphones were banned for the students .

After chatting we had a very tasty lunch provided by the academy themselves. One word to describe the lunch absolutely fantastic . The astonishing thing was that there were many girls too who had joined the short service commisison.Brave ladies ..... they get the same punishment as the boys ....

I found that all the cadets were taking food and transfering them to their plates in a different way. i asked my friend the reason behind that.He then told me that all were supposed to eat with a particular etiquette. While serving food , the scoop had to be used like a shovel being used to remove sand from a pit. The reverse was to be followed while transferring food to the plate. The logic behind this taking and transfering is that if u followed this way u would nt take much food and waste it while taking and not spill food on u or don while serving :)

Another was that , the cadets had to take food by the fork, put it on the spoon , eat it and place the fork and spoon face down on the plate until they had finished munching the previous morsel.even there was a protocol for lifting glass tumblers. They had to grasp the tumbler firmly with 3 fingers other than the thumb and place the little finger down to provide support and prevent the tumbler from falling. Amazing isnt it?

After i had finished lunch I was informed that my stay had to be cut short as the bus for secunderabad had come and that was the last bus for the day . With a heavy heart and of course a heavy stomach i bid aideu to my friend and got into the bus. Along with me came the parents of another tamil boy who was my friends co-batch.

They were so ignorant that they had not reserved a return ticket, and were planning to get ticket for chennai after reaching the station A highly impossible task, and that too on a sunday evening..... As we neared the station , I saw a billboard advertising some 3rd party reservation for railways. I suggested that to them only to receive the reply that the would ask more commission and so it was better to reserve in the station. After journey to hyderabad paying in hudereds they were looking to save 20 rs. Okie let it be. But as they did not know any language other than tamil i took it as my responsibility to help them.

I sttod in the long reservation queue for almost half an hour to enquire if there were any statu available for the next day only to be snubbed by the person at the counter. The were in a dilemma whether to go by bus for the day or to stay and go by train the next day. Amidst all the confusion i was the guy who did all the enquiru for them bnoth in the bus and railway stations shuttling here and there. The must have thought that getting a train ticket must be as easy as getting a tiocket in local bus.

Then finally they came to a decision to go by bus and thank god there were two tickets available in APSRTC. I booked those two tickets, accompanied themall the way to the bus stand which was miles from my place. Then after leaving thm safe and secure in the bus stand i began the journey to my house.

at the end of they day though tired from exertion i was extremely satisfied that i had helped some one. I felt really good :)
