A thought....

Once upon a time a very strong woodcutter ask for a job in a timber merchant, and he got it. The pay was really good and so were the work conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees

"Congratulations," the boss said. "Go on that way!"

Very motivated for the boss’ words, the woodcutter try harder the next day, but he only could bring 15 trees. The third day he try even harder, but he only could bring 10 trees.Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.

"I must be losing my strength", the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

"When was the last time you sharpened your axe?" the boss asked.

"Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees..."

This is the same thing happening in our life. After getting settled in a company, we perform the tasks given to us monotonously without sharping n shapin our knowledge. There has to be a CHANGE

  1. wow the first post by shanthee and well said . Yeah the fact is that we would be all tied up to the work we do there will be least opportunity for a change . If we cointinue working so our life will become monotonous and we wont even feel like doing the regular work assigned to us. We must take time to relax, spend some time for recreation, update our knowledge(which is necessary for survival) and the most important of all spend timeto keep our body and mind fit and clean

What will happen if there are no trees to cut even with a sharp axe??????
So the best way to survive is changing the area .. instead of sharpening the axe in the same area...
So.. my point is sharpen the axe.. at the same time u shud be in t right place with plenty of trees..

What will happen if u lose that axe????
U shud be careful enough to have a backup axe to survive..

Why not to take a position as a timber merchant (boss).. instead of wood cutter.. ???

  4. and juniper i missed the phrase "after a long time".

    @ hari
becoming a timer merchant from the wood cutter stage is not so easy but it is not impossible either :) it requires a clear vision:)

what if we go on cutting trees, there would be no more trees and the wood cutter will lose his job:)

  7. @Hari classic thought :) keep applying that in real life, you will reach great heights

Change is everything in life... but we have two choices out of it... keep changing the domain that we are working on[not an easy one from our side also from the employers side also] or stick to one domain improvise your knowledge on it and keep going to great heights in that...

What I learnt from Citrix is, you need not be a pakka management person to be a manager... Here our managers are very very sound in technical part... so if we can stabilize in one domain we can go on to easily reach that level :)

What you say might be true for other industries, but for the I.T industry whose dy/dx is greater than any other we need to be updated and well informed of what is goin in our field. If a situation occurs that the company has found the existing techno to be outdated and decides t switch to a new techno:) the first one's who must know abt the new tech must be managers. If we keep ourselves constatntly updated we will not have any hassles in the future.

This also applies to the managerial(non tech) side also .What if the company is facing a down turn due to the current economic situation or there are any changes in the gov policy to the company the managers have to decide the policiies for smooth riding through tough times.
