Moving the Audience

Speeches from industry topguns.. Motivational moments... Sentimental seconds... Awe inspiring movies... Goosebump causing books... Epic tale of a majestic king... Reality show touching moments... of all these, u know one thing that is common to all of them!!! Well its not a very tough nutshell to crack. It is basically the underlying essence in them that move the audience and make them feel that they have seen something that is truely possible and torches the brighter side in u which aims for an all new level of confidence.

There could have been several such moments in ur life. I have got those enlightening feelings many a times. It may even come up when u see a cheetah hunt a hyena with a strategy and brutality. The line of approach need not necessarily be conventional where u find the usual story of truth, justice and the good triumph. Tell me this, all of you would have watched the movie Nayagan, and the morphing of Karna-Duryodhana friendship into Thalapathy. Did any of us feel the pinch that these guys are all involved in anti-social activities and they are fundamentally criminals???? No, not at all. All of us felt that glorious feeling and emotional touch when we saw that on screen. Similarly when a Lion hunts down its prey and its shown in discovery channel, we all are amazed by the Lion's tactics and muscle.

So its all basically the wrapping of the gift that matters and the way the story is narrated. Ravana is depicted as evil and demon in our culture. But all of us know that Ravana is a lot more than the devil he is highlighted to be. His intellectual ability, powerful leadership and his seasoned talent in music and singing are some to be highlighted. Ithu mathiri niraya sambavangal irukirathu, i.e. our own beliefs in human race and psychological definition of the right and the wrong can be overriden at times and we ourselves will not feel the shift of paradigm in it and we would unknowingly even support the invasion of our own ideologies.

Here comes the main reason behind me bringing thiss post up..... The movie Avatar is no different from all the points that i touched above. Ultimately, this movie is also talking about our race of people trying to fight some aliens living in Neverland!! and expand our kingdom. But, but, ipdi sonaal ellarum yena adika thaan varuvinga.. Whyyy?? Bcuz we felt that the Na'vis are on the appealing end and our law court within declared them as having the fairplay creed and integrity. Athey story ah, humans trying to kill aliens and weird creatures of the 3rd world and triumph against them endru kaamichurunthaal wouldnt we have still enjoyed it?! Well, think about it guys... Thats the case with every exhilirating and mind stirring story.... Alexander, Napoleon Bonaparte, India Pakistan cricket matches..........!

  1. @Senthil: I wish humans would be atleast half like Na'vis and become sensible enough to stop spoiling earth.

I dint want to mention this in my post coz it wud almost reveal the story for which it was too early. I liked the movie only coz of those faithful people who sprang to save their wonderful world.

There may arise the never ending question - "What difference is it going to make with just 10 or little more of us" which can be answered in only one way. So many times we go to exam without studying properly, have we ever thought what is the use of going without studying! The same goes here too. We can surely make a difference.

  3. Nobody is going to make a difference single handed.. Its all a collective effort.! Athellam irukatum. Yen ipdi Mr.citrix !! Yen... Eppo da Ms.Citrix exam pathi pesuva nu trap vachitu wait paniyo :)

I feel we are deviating from our initial discussion. We are talking about the human race getting defeated in a battle and good or bad they are from our race! why do we enjoy watching this and some ignorant ppl like me watch it even twice on theatre ;)

  4. @Senthil: I have few reasons for that,
    1. Navis look more like humans, so audience don't feel them as a different species/aliens.
    2. Always ppl like the good to b won.. than t sinner..
    3. The screenplay emphasis more on human cruelty than the actual reason for their project.. (Bombing the tree)..
If they showed millions of human ppl in earth suffering in earth for that raw material for their life.. then ppl wudnt hv liked t film's climax. :) :)

  5. ha ha good thinking da mapla :)

Well more or less u ve covered the different reasons of why we feel so moved when watchin our ass getting kicked.

The best part of the movie was indeed the climax where aywa answers jack's prayers and infuses nature's army to win the battle.

  6. I feel human mind always likes seeing fiction than what is real, so seeing the Navi's gives us pleasure :) if we are human enough we should feel the pain in it also :P

  7. Hmmm Good way of looking at it. Actually speaking we tend to yearn for the thought that we cant afford.

Moreover as Hari was also pointing out Navis were portrayed as the wiser and more humane. So we also tend to have feelings for them !
