does he really deserve to be voted so?
Ponting's numbers are a bit staggering,agreed.His dominance of the bowlers over the entire decade is unrivalled. He has the fighting spirit and has lead his team to many victories as no other captain has ever done.Its all fine, but are these alone enough to judge 'The cricketer of the decade'. A cricketer most be judged not only in terms of records, but also in his effort to uphold the spirit of cricket.The Sydney test, and the un cerimonious ushering of Sharad pawar,Australian sledging tactics do no good to his image as an ambassador of cricket.Ponting might be the captain with the most victories, but was it the team he formed?The seamless transition into captaincy was possible as it was Tugga who had transformed Aussies into a powerful cricketing force.The second ashes defeat is surely a black mark in his other wise illustrious captaincy.Well Ponting might be the man who laughs in bowlers faces.He surely deserves to be the batsman of the decade but not the 'Player of the Decade'
Jeff.. I watch cricket but i dont follow it so deeply.. As far as my cricket knowledge.. I think there s no wrong in giving him this award.. In any sport.. Wat ultimately needed is winning t same.. He holds t record for the most ODI and test victories as a captain.. One cant win a match just like that.. bcoz of a having a stronger side.. Though it is requisite.. Effective planning and decision making skills by t captain must be in first-class.. I believe tat, Ponting has all those skills.. which makes him special out from t rest of other players..

I wud go with Hari. As jeff says he does not carry the best etiquette with him. But he has the charisma and he is a powerhouse.
ReplyDeleteWhat in him lacks in sachin is that force he carries. If u look up at a person and if u feel that he shld be a luring magnetic individual oozing confidence, then Ponting is one of them.
The team looks up at him and he carries that command that.. "U either do it my way or the high way".. gethu thaan, othuka vendum.
