IPL,the heart beat of one billion Indians etc etc. But it is commercialization to the worst possible extent. . IPl ,provides a lot of opportunity to the youngsters. They get to interact and learn a lot form the greats of the game. But the business motive behind it is alarming.Gulu Eziekel a freelance sports writer rightly points out," whenever a six is being hit the commentators rather than calling it a six say it as dlf maximum. When a catch or run out is effected they instead of applauding the efforts of the fielder describe it as citi-moment of success(citi bank is a sponsor).
IPL has lured greats like Adam Gilchrist, Matthew hayden etc to retire from their international duties"They also choose a person as miss bollywood for every match ,as if they are going to give them a chance in their forthcoming hindi films, not to mention the cheergirls who take commercialization to the worst extent.
What does cricket got to do with the likes of mandira bedi who dont know the technicalities of cricket. The greatness of the game is being reduced to rubble. Well the emphasis is made on the atmosphere and crowd rather than the pitch and the strategies of the game.
Indian premier league has become very popular in South Africa for the amount it donates for the education in SA during the strategic time-out.What did the INDIAN premier league do to INDIANS the previous season?Every match they show the trophy and thank the sponsors for making IPL possible.
Another allegation is the racism shown by the Kolkata Knight riders foreign towards the Indian players in the camp, their performance describes it all.Jeffrey Archer rightly described during his recent visit to Mumbai,"cricket is not 20-20. It is all about Rahul Dravid and VVS laxman batting the whole day". We might not find such matches so interesting. 20-20 is fine with the entertainment it provides. But making it a minting machine ...is unhealthy for the spirit of the game.

here goes the first comment, being an ardent supporter of csk I say that csk cheer girls are the most decent of the lot.And the only unpredicatable team in IPL is our own C.S.K.
ReplyDelete"kadavule ganguly silly point po da...."
"yaarachum comment pannungaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa naanum ethana tharava dhaan en posta paarpen edhachum comment vanduruka nu"
Tht is a very good piece of observation buddy.. if ppl have enough awareness on cricket, ipl, ads, the recent news and headline materials then they will realize the amount of spice and essence ur article carries
ReplyDeleteI vote this to be the best blog by far... very descriptive, informative and nicely articulated.
i'll give u wat Jeffrey Archer's exact words were "Cricket is not 20-20.. Its when V V S LAXMAN and RAHUL DRAVID play the whole day and beat australia at the end of the day.. That's cricket"
I really felt the impact when i heard him say that.. as such he is one of the idols i worship.. So even i am with u on all this flavored artificial business of cricket..
It really is a disgust to the formid game which is THE heartbeat of millions of spectators. Sponsors and Strategic-timeout should be banned to a very bad extent!!!!!
But one thing to be appreciated is the revival of the defeated purpose of this game...
ReplyDeletewhich was in the name itself>> INDIAN premier league.. and all indians were benched.. now, in this season 2 they have imbibed this rule of having only 4 foreign players per team...
which is really good for the nurturing of young talent.. and if we had followed the games till date we would ve noticed the upcoming of so many raw talents which failed in the previous season..!!
fine misssed out on jeffrey archers word. senthil may be this is too specific about cricket. May be our guys have less interest in cricket.Only u and I have commented...
ReplyDeleteSenthil foriegn players rule applied for the last season also yet only few indians are performing like suresh raina, pragyan ohja rpsingh. A lot is done by foriegn players like hayden gilly, gibbs, ab,nannes etc. It might be the learning phase of our Indian players... it is all good .the only thing i am opposed is to toomuch of ads....
ReplyDelete@jeff
ReplyDeleteu r right with regd to me.. i've very less interest in cricket.. to be more clear, i don ve much of knowledge on it too.. so 'll jus see wat u guys ve posted atleast ;)
Hey guys first of all why dint you consider that, weekend people might not come online???
ReplyDeleteI too feel it has become only IBL. It is stealing the spirit of the game. There are so many things which can be quoted as examples.
ReplyDelete1. In match, where Bret Lee was playing on the fielding side and so was an Indian player[dint notice his name], Lee was running sideward to stop a four, and our guy was running straight towards it. Lee managed to stop it and throw the ball back, and our guy with Lee in between fumbled over him and fell over the boundary in a terrible manner, I was way too shocked to see Lee walk away without even looking back, it was horrible of him to do so...
Will this happen if they are from the same nation, I dont think so...
2. Four or more players going to attempt a catch, and the ball falls in between all with nobody attempting to even put their hand forward... Will anybody keep quiet if this happens when all the four international players are playing for their nation????
I dint see any match of IPL season 1 coz I was completely against this then itself... All of us will remember the nasty Sreesanth incident...
Who will want our palyers to fight amongst themselves?? Nah I want them to play for us, for India and not for teams named after our places, which hardly contain players from that place, excepting for very much reputed ppl like Sach, Rahul, Ganguly...
I want to see cricket as cricket and not as a dance floor, it is very much disgusting to even look at those dance girls excepting as Rogers said, CSK and say even MI's are not that bad...
IPL is clearly IBL which is spoiling our cricket...
One small error in my prev post: cheer girls of CSK and KKR[not MI] are not that bad...
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about wat u ppl are talking
ReplyDeleteAs i close my eyes when such obscenity comes... So not able to comment on the previous comment due to my unawareness of such an existence.... cheer girls?????*&%$#
Well said, but I dont know if it is true, I mostly do the same though :)
